Portfolio Management

Collaborative portfolio management balancing capital-preservation objectives, investment risk, and market participation.

What we do

A partnership in direction. Discipline in implementation.

As an independent investment advisory firm, we combine thoughtful client discussions with advanced, proprietary portfolio research. We consider how much emphasis to place on capital preservation and market participation, then establish objectives and investment guidelines together. 5thN constructs and manages the portfolio under the authority agreed in the advisory contract.

Collaboration guides the mandate. Portfolio methods guide the work.

Our independent investment-advisory practice is centered on portfolio management rather than brokerage or securities sales. We do not receive our mandate from a product distribution program. We apply our proprietary Expanded Portfolio Theory and internal asset model within investment guidelines established through discussion with the client. Portfolio decisions remain subject to the agreed advisory mandate.

01

Listen and explore

Discuss your objectives, risk tolerance, time horizon, liquidity needs, and the options and trade-offs worth considering.

02

Agree and implement

Set investment guidelines together. We then construct and manage the portfolio within the authority granted under the advisory agreement.

03

Review and adapt

Review portfolio risks and progress, listen as your priorities evolve, and revisit the mandate when changes are appropriate.

A focus on the actual portfolio

Our approach includes attention to the combined behavior of investments within the portfolio, not just the attractiveness of each security viewed independently. Portfolios may hold stocks, bonds, exchange-traded funds, or other permissible investments as appropriate to the agreed strategy. We consider how defensive allocations, exposure limits, liquidity needs, and participation in market opportunities fit within the agreed guidelines. Capital preservation is a goal that may guide those decisions, not a promise to protect principal. Even risk-conscious portfolios can lose value.

An important distinction: Securities and funds included in a managed portfolio are investment holdings, not an indication that 5thN acts as their broker or distributor. Any fund has its own expenses, risks, and disclosures.

Terms of an engagement

Advisory compensation and related expenses are discussed individually with prospective clients rather than quoted on this website. The applicable advisory agreement and the firm’s current regulatory disclosures govern the terms of service. Clients should review the scope of services, investment discretion, custody, fees, other expenses, and termination provisions before signing an agreement. Fees and expenses reduce investment returns, whether the portfolio gains or loses value. See the Form ADV brochure and our Disclosures.

Risk-conscious advice. Decisions made together.

You have a voice in the objectives, guidelines, and direction of your portfolio—and you can ask to revisit them. Whether individual trades require prior client approval depends on the investment authority established in your advisory agreement. Services, fees, custody arrangements, and potential conflicts are described in the applicable agreement and the firm’s Form ADV brochure. Learn about our group meetings.
